Officials from the engineering wing of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have demolished more than 50 illegal structures in all eight civilian wards over the past two weeks.
During a special drive launched by the department, the unauthorized structures were identified, most of which were built on private properties, and in some instances, on class ‘C’ land that is under SCB control. Although nearly 30 illegal buildings were demolished during the pandemic, recent inspections revealed the emergence of new illegal structures.
An engineer from the SCB stated that during the inspections, they found that more than 90% of property owners were constructing unauthorized structures, which were in violation of SCB regulations. These structures included rooms for watchmen, compound walls encroaching on public roads, and small commercial structures.
Overall, it is important for the SCB to take a proactive approach to address the issue of unauthorized construction in the cantonment area. Collaboration between the SCB, the police, and the residents can go a long way in resolving this issue and ensuring the safety and security of the residents.
