NRI Investments Expected to Contribute 20% to India's Real Estate Sector by 2025: Report

As NRIs continue to engage in the Indian real estate market, showing a growing interest in long-term investments, projections suggest they will constitute 20% of the nation's real estate sector investments by 2025, as per insights from proptech unicorn NoBroker.

Over the last year, NRIs have displayed heightened interest, contributing to around 10% of total investments in India's real estate market during 2019–2020.

Bengaluru and Mumbai emerge as top choices for NRI investments, with 29% favoring the former and 24% opting for the latter. Bengaluru's appeal lies in its cosmopolitan lifestyle, quality educational institutions, and thriving startup ecosystem. Mumbai's dynamic real estate market, encompassing commercial, residential, and luxury properties, is particularly enticing for NRIs.

The preference for 3 BHK units has risen, surpassing demand for 1 and 2 BHK units, reflecting a desire for more spacious and versatile living spaces. Additionally, 26% of NRI buyers actively seek properties with budgets exceeding ₹1 crore.

Despite the uptick in NRI investments, challenges persist. The report highlights that 82% of NRI buyers identify a lack of information and transparency as significant obstacles in navigating the Indian real estate market. This underscores the pressing need for enhanced accessibility and clarity in the property purchase process.
