Who has been appointed as the new RERA Chairman?

The Rajasthan Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) will witness a vacancy in the post of its Chairman from April 19 onwards, as the current Chairman, NC Goel, is retiring on completing sixty-five years of age. NC Goel, a former Chief Secretary, was appointed as the first Chairman of RERA on April 23, 2019.

The question of who will take over the significant position of RERA Chairman has become a topic of discussion in the political and administrative circles of the state. In the last five years, RERA's influence in the real estate and property industry has grown to the point where it has established a separate place within the administration. At present, the authority has over 2500 registered projects and more than five thousand registered agents.

The position of Chairman of RERA is a selection post and interested candidates are invited to apply. A high power committee, led by the Chief Justice of the High Court, with members including the Principal Secretary UDH and Secretary Law, will then select the most suitable candidate for the position. To be eligible for the post, the candidate must be an official of the seniority of Additional Secretary in the Government of India or a technocrat, and the tenure of the Chairman is five years or until the age of 65.

It is reported that the job position is being considered for two retired IAS officers, namely R. Venkateswaran and PK Goyal. PK Goyal, who retired on January 31, has previously served as Commissioner of the Housing Board, Secretary of LSG, and Additional Chief Secretary of UDH. Before NC Goel, he also held the position of RERA Chairman for a certain period of time.

Based on information from reliable sources, it appears that the state government has not yet made a decision on who will be appointed as the new Chairman. However, it is anticipated that an appointment will be made on April 19. In the interim, it is possible that the additional responsibility of the post will be given to the Principal Secretary UDH or any member of RERA. Additionally, there are suggestions that the government may wait until June 30 before appointing a retired senior IAS officer to the post.
