Maharashtra Leads in RERA-Registered Projects with 1.19 Lakh Total Registrations

Since the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) became operational, 1.19 lakh projects comprising 97.14 lakh units have been registered across the top 10 states in India between 2017 and 2024, according to a report by PropEquity.

Top 10 States with Highest RERA Registrations

Maharashtra leads the list with 48,047 projects, accounting for 40% of the total. Tamil Nadu follows with 19,987 projects (17%), while Gujarat holds third place with 16,265 projects (14%). Other states in the top 10 include Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Rajasthan.

Compliance and Transparency in Real Estate

Samir Jasuja, Founder and CEO of PropEquity, highlighted how RERA has significantly improved compliance and transparency in the real estate sector. This has boosted investor confidence, leading to increased participation from both domestic and foreign institutional investors.

Average Units Per Project and City-Wise Distribution

The report reveals that Uttar Pradesh has the highest average number of units per project at 184, followed by Rajasthan (156) and Gujarat (116). Across the top 10 states, the average number of units per project is 81 units.

Among cities, Pune (12,346 projects), Thane (8,858 projects), and Hyderabad (7,180 projects) top the list for the most RERA-registered projects.

Future of India's Real Estate Market

With over ₹5.5 lakh crore valuation in Tier-1 cities, experts believe the sector is on track to become a $1 trillion economy. However, further alignment of strong regulations and favorable tax policies is necessary for sustained growth.
