On Monday, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, initiated the groundwork for the construction of more than 50,000 houses in the Guntur district. The project is estimated to cost Rs 1,830 crore and will be implemented in the Krishnayapalem layout under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - YSR BLC (U) scheme. A total of 50,793 houses will be built as part of this initiative.
The houses will be built in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) area, covering 1,400 acres, and situated within the Assembly constituencies of Mangalagiri and Tadikonda. The construction will be carried out across 25 layouts in this region.
Reddy stated that with this program, he is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive Amaravati, intended to serve the needs of everyone. He declared that from that very moment, Amaravati would transform into a city that belongs to each and every one of its residents, symbolizing unity and shared ownership.
After the foundation-laying ceremony, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed a public gathering in Venkatapalem. During his speech, he announced that all the beneficiaries would receive documents for their houses through 25 designated counters.
The Chief Minister mentioned that a seamless handing over of documents would take place as the respective beneficiaries have already been assigned to their respective volunteers and counters.
Reddy stated that every beneficiary would be photographed on their respective plots and geotagged for proper documentation and identification purposes.
As per the Chief Minister's announcement, the layouts where these thousands of houses are being constructed will also include amenities such as anganwadi centers, schools, shopping centers, parking facilities, and various other essential services.
The Chief Minister highlighted that a significant majority of the beneficiaries opted for the government to construct houses for them, with an estimated cost of Rs 2.75 lakh per unit.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government has provided 30.75 lakh housing sites to eligible impoverished individuals throughout the state. Furthermore, there are currently 22 lakh houses under construction at different stages of completion.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the foundation for the project was laid despite facing numerous obstacles. He alleged that TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan, and others attempted to obstruct the program, even resorting to legal measures. However, the project successfully moved forward despite these challenges.
Referring to them as adversaries of the underprivileged, the Chief Minister asserted that a total of 18 cases were filed in the High Court, and five more were filed in the Supreme Court, challenging the distribution of houses to the poor. Despite these legal hurdles, he proudly stated that he emerged victorious in these legal battles, allowing the project to proceed as planned.
With a sense of determination and divine support, the Chief Minister expressed that he is progressing steadfastly, paving the way for the construction of their houses. He referred to the ceremony as a triumph for the welfare of the poor, signifying the fulfillment of their long-awaited aspirations.
In addition to laying the foundation, Reddy also conducted an inspection of a model house.
