Minister K T Rama Rao Launches Lakes Development Programme to Revitalize and Develop 50 Water Bodies in Hyderabad and Surrounding Areas

The Minister announced that the lakes' surroundings would feature amenities such as walking tracks, open gyms, benches, toilets, evening lights, children's play areas, gazebos, amphitheatres, and other landscaping facilities.

Alleging that the Central government is hindering the development of Hyderabad by citing false reports and illogical reasons, the Minister claimed that major infrastructure projects are not receiving adequate support. He further stated that real estate developers have adopted the lakes under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme and urged the public to support the programme aimed at revitalizing and developing the city's water bodies.

The Lakes Development Programme covers 50 lakes, with 25 located within GHMC limits and the remaining within HMDA limits. At the event, the Minister distributed MoU certificates to real estate development companies that have taken up the responsibility of lake development.

The Minister highlighted the success of Durgam Cheruvu, which turned into a popular tourist spot after its development. He promised that more such projects would follow. The idea behind the lake development programme was to create leisure spaces for families and senior citizens. The Minister emphasized the need for a clear plan before private agencies initiate lake conservation to avoid legal hurdles during development. He also recommended that officials consider TDRs in case of any land ownership disputes related to the 50 lakes.

The people of Hyderabad are taking ownership and feeling proud of the city's development on all fronts. The journey has just begun, and there are numerous plans in the pipeline.

The Minister shared a glimpse of the plans for Hyderabad, revealing that the city is set to have a Metro line spanning over 250 km and a fleet of electric buses.

Highlighting Hyderabad's immense potential and bright future, the Minister declared that no other Indian city can match Hyderabad's prospects. He further disclosed upcoming projects, including the expansion of the medical devices park, the construction of a world-class film city, an international-standard sports city, and an academic city.
