Hyderabad on turning into a fiscal powerhouse

As per ‘ The Sprint’ by UK-based real estate services giant, Savills: With a great habitat comprising of IT, pharma, life sciences, and real estate, Hyderabad is emerging as the economic powerhouse of India.

Revenues from the life science domain is expected to reach 3 to 4 times the current level and cross the threshold of $40-50 billion by 2030. Even the EV sector is likely to see an investment of $3-4 billion with the employment rate shooting to around one lakh people by 2030.

A big step in this direction is creating a top-notch Telangana Mobility Valley (TMV). Effective and focused government policies such as Information Communication Technology (ICT) Policy 2.0, Telangana Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Solution Policy, Space-Tech framework, state-wide optical fiber network and Growth in Dispersion (GRID) policy, and TS-iPass, have contributed to the growth of Hyderabad.

Responding to the report, IT & Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said the Telangana government has pledged to create a supreme business hub for the generations to come. FY22 witnessed approx. 1.5 lakh employment opportunities in the IT/ITeS sector which turned out to be almost one-third of the IT-related jobs in the country. By the end of FY22, IT/ ITeS saw the employment of around 7.8 lakh people in the State itself (primarily Hyderabad). The State has put immense focus on sectors of life sciences, data centres, EV ecosystem, AVGC and aerospace.

Statistical data says that around 150 Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) companies provide direct employment to approximately 30,000 people. With notable thrust from the State government, these sectors can employ around one lakh people in the next five years along with the Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) industry within the aerospace domain in the nation which is expected to reach $2-3 billion during the same term hence making Hyderabad one of the most prominent contributor.

Hyderabad has been at the prime in terms of leasing activity since the formation of Telangana. Residential realty has also gained momentum, with the city registering the highest housing sales in 2022 in the last eight years.

Investors have shown keen interest in Data centres, the uprising sub-sector within real estate. According to the report, 26% of Data centre land transactions in 2022 came from Hyderabad. The total land transactions done in the country are said to be 500 acres.
