On Earth Day, real estate developers and companies in Hyderabad registered 50 projects with CII's Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), contributing an eco-friendly area of 80 million square feet.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and IGBC celebrated the occasion by hosting the 'IGBC's Green Crusaders' program at the CII-Green Business Centre in Hyderabad.
K Vidhyadhar, Director of DTCP, Telangana, and Secretary of TSRERA, was present as a special guest and stated that the Telangana government has always implemented policies, rules, and regulations that consider environmental concerns for sustainable development and will continue to do so.
C Shekar Reddy, who is the Chairman of the Hyderabad Chapter of IGBC and the President of CII Telangana, mentioned that the green building movement initiated by IGBC in Hyderabad has led to more than 10,700 registered green projects across India, with a total area of 10.26 billion square feet. He also highlighted that this accomplishment has made India the second country in the world with the largest registered green building footprint.
Reddy expressed gratitude to Credai, the real estate body, for committing to collaborate with IGBC in constructing 4000 green projects by 2030. He also welcomed Naredco and Telangana Builders' Federation (TBF) to contribute to the green building movement.
Reddy also announced that CII IGBC is organizing Green Property Show 2023, which is India's first and exclusive expo showcasing IGBC green-certified and pre-certified projects, green products, and technologies on July 29 and 30 at HITEX, Hyderabad. The event is aimed at promoting and acknowledging green buildings in the real estate sector.
K Ravi Kumar, who is a Senior Environmental Engineer at the Telangana State Pollution Control Board, stated that IGBC Green certification is at par with the norms of the PCB and has commendable guidelines for exceeding the required green features. He further mentioned that discussions for a partnership between TSPCB and CII were ongoing to provide incentives for green buildings. Kumar also emphasized the need for more net-zero buildings in the construction sector.
Other participants included Murli Krishna Reddy, Chairman of Credai Telangana, Ramachandra Reddy, President of Credai Telangana, Sunil Chandra Reddy, President of Naredco Telangana, Gautam Reddy, Convener of Infra and Real Estate Panel at CII Telangana, and V Rajasekhar Reddy, General Secretary of Credai Hyderabad.
At the event, developers and builders who had registered their projects under suitable IGBC Rating systems were acknowledged as IGBC Green Crusaders for demonstrating their dedication and leadership toward constructing a sustainable planet.
