Indian Data Centre Stock Exceeds 9 Million Square Feet and is Expected to Double by 2024, Says the Report.

According to a report by CBRE South Asia, India's Data Centre (DC) stock exceeded 9 million sqft in January-June 2022 with over 600 megawatts of capacity. By 2025, data centre investments in India are expected to surpass $20 billion. Growing digitalisation and government policy impetus have led to an increase in DC demand in India.

As of H1 2022, the DC stock in India exceeded 9 million sq ft with a capacity of over 600 MW. With more than 400 MW currently under construction across cities in India, DC capacity is predicted to nearly double by 2024. Real estate consulting firm CBRE South Asia reported that Mumbai will lead supply additions, followed by Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi-NCR.

It also noted that India's demand for DC’s is surging due to growing digitalisation and strong government policy support. Also, online gaming, smartphone usage, e-commerce, online schooling, location-agnostic work, and advanced technologies such as machine learning, 5G, blockchain, and artificial intelligence have increased data transmission, resulting in a multifold increase in server capacity.
