Microsoft Expands Presence in Hyderabad with Rs 267 Crore Land Acquisition

In a significant move aimed at bolstering its data center business, Microsoft Corporation has recently sealed a deal to acquire 48 acres of land in Hyderabad for a whopping Rs 267 crore. This latest acquisition marks a strategic expansion for the tech giant, further solidifying its foothold in the region's burgeoning technology landscape.

The transaction, finalized with land aggregator Sai Balaji Developers situated in the Ranga Reddy district, was revealed through documents shared by Propstack, a prominent data analytics firm.

Sources close to the deal have disclosed that Microsoft's motivation behind the acquisition stems from its ambitious plans to establish one of the largest data centers in the area. The selected property, located approximately forty kilometres away from Hyderabad's city center, has been deemed ideal for the company's expansion endeavors. Notably, Microsoft opted to pay a premium for the strategically positioned land.

This move adds to Microsoft's existing network of data center regions in India, which presently includes operational hubs in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai, each contributing to the technological infrastructure of the country for the past five years.

Moreover, this isn't the sole investment Microsoft has made in Hyderabad. As per insiders, the corporation has acquired two additional land parcels in the city to further bolster its data center business.

Responding to inquiries regarding the acquisition, Microsoft remained tight-lipped, stating, "We have no information to share at this time."

Beyond its data center ambitions, Microsoft maintains a robust presence in Hyderabad through its India Development Center (IDC), sprawling across 54 acres. This facility, alongside counterparts in Bengaluru and Noida, has been instrumental in advancing Microsoft's technological offerings, including Azure, Windows, Office, and Bing.

Furthermore, Microsoft's foray into Hyderabad's real estate market comes amidst a broader trend of the company expanding its footprint in flexible office spaces across the country over the past two years.
